A “Sappy Story”

Madison students collecting sap

Our students got some experiential learning opportunities outside of the classroom for the past couple of weeks, thanks to Madison parents  Andy Fox and Travis Schori. Starting last week, every grade went out to the woods and Mr. Fox and Mr. Schori demonstrated how to tap a tree. About six to eight trees were double tapped. Then Mr. Fox came back this week to cook the sap down to begin the syrup making process. The classes again got to come outside around recess to watch the cooking/syrup making process.

Watch the process yourself…

Unfortunately, this year there may not be enough for all students to take home a syrup sample for their pancakes, but the hope is to continue this tradition next year!
